Biography

Brigitta Winkler ist eine Pionierin der Berliner Tangowelt. Ihre erste Bühnenshow brachte sie 1986 nach Montreal.
Seit nun mehr 30 Jahren lebt, tanzt und unterrichtet Brigitta Argentinischen Tango.
Als Eine der ersten Stunden, erlebte sie Buenos Aires ohne Tangotouristen – studierte u.a. mit Todaro und Arquimbau.
1986 Gründung von Tango Art (phynix tanzt) mit Angelika Fischer in Berlin.
Von 1991–1994 absolvierte sie eine Ausbildung in Body–Mind-Centering in Massachusetts mit Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen. Seit 1995 lebt sie in New York. Mit unterschiedlichen Tanzpartner unterrichtet sie auf Festivals in den USA.
Zusammen mit 5 anderen Frauen gründete sie Tango Mujer, eine Tanztheater Gruppe und tourte durch ganz Nordamerika.Seit 8 Jahren arbeitet sie intensiv mit Tango-Lehrern. Coached und leitet Teachertraining. (siehe Photo, Hawaii 2011, mit Tomas Howlin)

Brigitta Winkler lebt in Berlin und New York. Sie studierte in Berlin Ballet and Modern Dance. 1980 entdeckte sie Tango Argentino. 1985 Aufenthalt in Paris. Auftritte im Troittior de Buenos Aires, Paris. Anschliessend Tour und Auftritte in Montreal und Toronto. Regelmässige Studienaufenthalte in Buenos Aires. Unterricht bei Juan Carlos Copes, Antonio Todaro, Pepito, Gustave Naveiro und Eduardo Arquimbau.

1987 gründete sie zusammen mit ihrer Tanzpartnerin Angelika Fischer das Studio Tanzart in Berlin. Als Frauentanzpaar arbeiten sie u.a. mit dem Klaus Gutjahr Ensemble oder mit Juan Jose Musalini jun. Seit 1995 ist sie auch Tangolehrerin im New Yorker Dance Manhattan Studio. Neben ihrer Tätigkeit als Tanzlehrerin und Tänzerin erarbeitete sie folgende Choreographien 1993: Tango Marathon im Theaterhaus Stuttgart, 1995: .Tango Vision - Podewil, Berlin, 1996: Tango Mundo - Podewil, Berlin, 1996-2001; Tango Mujer -Symphonie Space, Town Hall, New York, Podewil, Berlin und Dance Festival Colorado.

Von 1991-1995 absolvierte sie ein Training in Body Mind Centering mit Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, in Amherst, Mass, zur Zeit 2000-2 studiert sie authenic movement im Naropa Institut in Boulder ,Co. Ihre Arbeit speziell Unterricht ist massgeblich beeinflusst von ihren Studien.2001 erhielt sie das Stipendium für Choreographie von der Djerrassi Foundation, Kalifornien.

2005 gründete sie in Berlin das Studio "phynix tanzt", Sudio für Tango Argentino, Modern Dance, Yoga.

September: Hamburg, queer-tango- festivalals TangolehrerInnen fehlt es uns oft an Möglichkeiten des Austausches und der Weiterbildung ausserhalb von herkömmlichem Unterricht, in dem es kaum um Fragen der Vermittlung geht. Aus diesem Grund bieten wir  auf dem 9. Internationalen Queer Tango Festival vom 24. bis 26. September in Hamburg erstmalig in Europa ein Teacher Training mit der brillanten Brigitta Winkler, Tangolehrerin der ersten Stunde, an. 7 Stunden Unterricht an 3 Tagen für Leute, die schon Tango Argentino unterrichten oder damit beginnen wollen. Brigitta Winkler ist eine wirklich außergewöhnliche und ungemein kreative Lehrerin. Sie gehört neben Gustavo Naveira, Pepito Avellaneda und Carlos Gavito zu den LehrerInnen, die uns Mitte bis Ende der 80ger Jahre inspiriert haben. Wir hatten Gelegenheit, letztes Jahr zusammen mit ihr auf dem Festival in San Francisco zu unterrichten, waren wieder sehr beeindruckt von ihrem didaktischen Genie und freuen uns sehr auf ihr Kommen im September und die Möglichkeit dieses Angebots.

As tango teachers we often lack opportunities for exchange and professional development outside the usal tango class setting, which hardly broaches questions of teaching. For that very reason we are offering a Tango teacher training with brillant Brigitta Winkler, a Tango teaching pioneer, for he first time in Europe at the 9th international Queer Tango Festival from the24th to the 26th of September in Hamburg. The training will consist of 7 hours of lessons over the course of 3 days for people, who already teach Tango Argentino or would like to start doing so. Brigitta Winkller ist a truly exeptional, tremendously creative teacher. It was she who, along with Gustavo Naveira, Pepito Avellaneda and Carlos Gavito inspired us in the mid- to late 1980s. Last year we had the opportunity to teach togehter with her at the San Francisco festival and were impressed once more by her didactic genius.
